I’m hoping someone can help me understand something because the more I read, the more tangled I get in all this terminology. I was in a pretty serious accident at work about eight months ago where a pallet of materials tipped over and crushed my leg. I’ve had two surgeries so far and my surgeon is telling me I’m probably looking at another one down the road, but the big thing is he doesn’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to the same kind of physical work I was doing before. I’m in my late thirties and I’ve only ever done warehouse and delivery jobs, so the idea that I might not be able to do that anymore is terrifying. The insurance company recently sent me a letter about a permanent impairment rating and I honestly don’t know what that means for my future. I know there’s a difference between temporary disability benefits while you’re healing and something more permanent, but I’m not sure how that works or if I need to be doing something differently now to protect myself long term. I think I need to sit down with someone who can explain this stuff in plain language, maybe a workers comp disability lawyer New Paltz area, because I don’t want to find out years from now that I should have fought for something different when I had the chance. Has anyone here been through the process of getting a permanent disability rating and settling that part of their case? I’m trying to figure out what to expect and whether I should be pushing back on this rating they’re trying to give me.
