Hey all. I do a fair amount of my own car maintenance, nothing structural, mostly servicing and brakes. What I keep running into is the gap between the owner’s handbook, which tells me almost nothing useful, and the workshop documentation, which the dealer treats as proprietary. Subscription services for the full data are expensive for someone doing two or three jobs a year. What do other home mechanics use for actual specifications? The car is about twelve years old, a common European model, nothing rare or specialist.

The gap you are describing is real and it catches most people who go beyond oil changes. Subscription platforms make sense for a workshop and rarely for someone doing a handful of jobs. For that use case an archive is more practical, and ManualMachine https://manualmachine.com/ covers most of the major manufacturers, with service documentation rather than just the glovebox handbook. Check the model year carefully, torque figures and fluid specifications change mid generation more often than people assume, and using the wrong year’s figures is a genuinely expensive mistake on brakes. Also download the section you need before you start rather than halfway through, since the car will be on stands and your hands will not be clean.
