Hey campers. Quick one – does canvas actually make a difference in winter, or is that just marketing? I’ve always been a nylon guy but everyone in the cold-weather crowd swears by a canvas tent for winter. I’m skeptical about hauling something heavier unless there’s a real payoff in warmth and comfort when it’s cold. Convince me one way or the other, and if it’s worth it, where should I be looking to buy? Trying to decide before winter hits.

It’s a real difference, not marketing – I was a nylon skeptic too. A canvas tent winter setup wins on three things when it’s cold: canvas breathes so you get far less condensation freezing inside, it holds heat better, and paired with a stove jack you can actually run a wood stove and be warm, which nylon just can’t do safely.
