In Path of Exile, Orb of Fusing is the go-to currency for chasing big power spikes, turning decent 4–6 socket gear into properly linked setups that can literally turbo-charge endgame builds.
If you have spent any real time in Wraeclast, you already know the special kind of pain that comes from spamming Orbs of Fusing on a good chest and watching the links fall apart, so a lot of players keep a stash of currency ready or even go to EZNPC when they want to buy game currency or items instead of gambling everything. The Orb of Fusing only rerolls the links between sockets, not the colours or the number of sockets, but those little white lines decide whether your main skill feels smooth and supported or like you are fighting the game itself. One unlucky streak, and you are staring at a zero-link rare wondering why you ever touched it in the first place.
Respecting The Fusing Odds
You quickly learn there are a few rules you should not break if you care about your sanity. First one that experienced players repeat all the time: do not start fusing an item with zero quality. It sounds basic, but people still forget, hit it a few times, then realise they just burned good orbs for no reason. Always hit your armour with Armourer’s Scraps or weapons with Whetstones until you hit 20% quality, or more if you have a way to boost it. The internal odds are better on higher quality items, and while you cannot see the numbers in-game, you can feel the difference over a league.
When To Stop And When To Trade
The tricky part is knowing where your limit is. You might tell yourself you are only going for a four-link or a five-link early in the season, because a full six-link is still out of reach. That is normal, and it is usually cheaper to just buy a pre-linked base off another player once prices stabilise. Fusings stay weirdly steady compared with league gimmick items, so you can trade them in a fairly predictable ratio against Chaos Orbs most of the time. If you are desperate, town vendors will swap Jeweller’s Orbs for Fusings, which is not an amazing deal but does help when you are just a few clicks away from hitting your setup and really do not want to open a trade website.
Farming Fusings With Vendor Recipes
If you prefer to grind your own instead of trading, the big shift is in how you treat drops. The Orb of Fusing itself does not rain from the sky, but six-socket items do once you are in higher tier maps. Change your loot filter so those six-sockets always show, grab them, and vendor them right away for seven Jeweller’s Orbs each. Then you turn those Jeweller’s into Fusings and watch the stack grow. It feels a bit dull picking up what looks like trash gear, but in maps with good pack size and quantity you can roll out with dozens of potential Fusings an hour, way more consistent than waiting for direct orb drops.
Staying Sane With Your Currency
The real skill with Orbs of Fusing is not mechanical, it is emotional. Players “rage-fuse” all the time: they miss once, then again, then they keep clicking because “it has to hit soon”, and suddenly the stash tab is empty and the item is still not six-linked. Set a hard cap in your head before you start, something like fifty or a hundred orbs, and stick to it when it feels bad. When you hit that number and still do not have your links, stop, walk away, or just buy the item from trade or pick up fresh POE 1 Currency to fund a safer upgrade path instead of feeding the slot machine.
